We offer both LGV C1 (includes Ambulance Driver Training/Horsebox) courses.
The LGV C1 (Ambulance/Horsebox) driving licence is required to drive most emergency ambulances. Generally, the Ambulance Service requires you to have the LGV C1 licence entitlement.
The LGV C1 licence is for drivers 18 or over and who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 and wish to drive a van or rigid medium goods vehicle with a MAM (Maximum Authorised Mass) over 3500kg and up to 7500kg.
Steps to get your C1 Driving Licence
1. Medical – Take the LGV medical, we can arrange this with our local doctors’ surgery.
2. Licence application – Apply for your provisional LGV C1 licence entitlement D2 from DVLA.
3. Theory tests to complete:
- LGV Theory test
- LGV Hazard Perception test
- Initial CPC module 2 test (dependent on training requirements)
Supporting study material is available at (https://www.drivingtheory4all.co.uk) – this is not included in course costs, you will need to pay for this yourself.
4. Training course – Start your LGV category C1 training course.
Please note: Most ambulance services DO NOT require you to do the CPC modules 2 & 4 but it is best to check with them directly.
